EV Charging Cost Calculator
Estimate energy drawn, charging cost and ideal duration for a home charging session.
Your details
Your estimate
Enter your inputs to calculate.—
Estimated session energy costAssumes constant effective input power and a single electricity rate. Charging taper, battery temperature, load sharing, standing charges, installation, subscriptions and session/parking fees are excluded. Follow vehicle guidance and local electrical safety requirements.
No black-box answers.
- Battery energy added = usable capacity × (target % − start %) ÷ 100.
- Energy from supply = battery energy added ÷ (efficiency % ÷ 100).
- Energy cost = supply energy × electricity price. Ideal duration (hours) = supply energy ÷ effective charger input power.
Default inputs are examples, not live prices or recommended rates. All calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not automatically saved: print or download before leaving.
A few things to know
Why is supply energy higher than battery energy?
Efficiency accounts for charging losses. At 90% efficiency, storing 36 kWh needs an estimated 40 kWh from the supply.
Is the charging time guaranteed?
No. Actual charging power changes with conditions and may taper. This is a simplified ideal-time estimate.
Does it compare live tariffs?
No. Enter your own tariff in one currency. For multiple tariff periods, calculate them separately.
